And the hot, sticky weather is here
What I'm Writing:
In early 2003, George W. Bush dubbed us the Ownership Society. Well, we're past that. As a general rule, I don't like writing about myself. I interviewed a bunch of people for this story and came to the conclusion that the struggles of Millennials were a real phenomenon and that my own life exemplified it just as well as anyone's. Since I know myself best, it made sense to be the center of the narrative.
What I'm Reading:
Caitlyn Jenner debuts. Some feminists are like, "What's a female brain?" Here is the best response to all of it. How Twitter can save itself. A friend interviews Kirsten Gillibrand. A forensic review of the McKinney pool incident from a criminologist. A writer is less than honest about how and why he defaulted on his student loans. A Slate writer calls it the worst Op-Ed in the history of The New York Times, and most people seem to agree. A better Slate writer is more measured and thoughtful, and also right. An amazing opus on code. On being a girl gamer. Inequality is more complicated than rants against the 1 percent would have you believe. Driving out hunger one cab at a time. Someone's murdering chickens in South Carolina, and it's because of the crazy companies that control the farmers.
What I'm Watching:
OITNB as soon as I'm done with this week!
Cute Animal Pic of the Week:
I gave up on the idea that this suitcase was for human use a long time ago.
